Alianza para el Bienestar Animal

Our Purpose

Countless companion animals in Costa Rica depend on people for their survival. Across our community, dedicated rescuers, shelters, and foster homes are already doing that work — often stretched thin by the cost of veterinary care, food, and basic supplies. Alianza para el Bienestar Animal exists to help reduce that financial barrier, so committed people can keep doing what they do best, sustainably and with real support behind them. Our secondary purpose is to identify and implement education throughout the community to enable increased castrations and reduce animals on our streets.

Our Mission

We invest directly in the community's existing animal welfare efforts. Right now, that means:

• Providing grants to independent rescuers, shelters, and foster homes to cover veterinary care, food, and other essential needs

• Organizing fundraisers — including partnerships with local businesses — to cover specific, urgent cases in our community. (Monetary donations are distributed directly from business owners to veterinarians or one of our registered partners like Animales Atenas. Costa Rican non-profits must be registered with the Registro Nacional in order to directly accept funds. We are in that process currently. )

• Coordinating donations of supplies to shelters and rescuers

• Delivering animal welfare education in schools and the community, in partnership with local associations and individuals committed to better outcomes for animals

• Building clear, transparent processes so every grant and every donation can be tracked from contribution to outcome

Our Vision for the Future

• As Alianza grows financially, we plan to expand in two directions:

• A Physical Rescue and Care Center — a facility employing local staff (ticos), with an attached pet store and veterinary clinic generating revenue to help the site sustain itself, reducing our long-term dependence on donations alone. This facility will include educational and collaboration space to further our efforts.

• An International Adoption Pathway — a program to connect rescued animals with adoptive homes abroad, expanding placement options for animals who need them.

• We're intentionally sequencing our growth: building a strong foundation through funding and education first, so that when we do take on a physical facility and international placement, we do so on solid financial footing.
